2005 Landscapes | d.o.c.s. studio/gallery of contemporary art | New Orleans, LA | March 5 - March 31
Inspired by a road trip across the country from Oregon back to Georgia, I wanted to create a series of landscapes that captured the essence of the trip; not only the brilliant colors of the day ending with sunset but also including the feeling of motion, as you would see in a blurred photograph taken from the window of a moving car. I wanted to create paintings that would show the tranquility and beauty of our country.
For this show I wanted to continue my goal of blurring the line between digital imagery and the traditional painting medium. The images are created on the computer but painted onto the canvas using oils. With the computer, I manipulate and refine the original photograph by adding motion blur and increasing the color saturation. Once I achieve the desired image, it becomes a sketch of the final painting.
